SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
In Slavoj ieks belief, by the advent of capitalism in its expansive global dimensions, violence and tolerance took different shapes to themselves and keep reshaping in various forms. Things that decades ago were perceived as normal and nonviolent may render themselves today as harassment, violent, and racist. Acts of crime and terror, civil unrest, international conflicts which are observed incessantly in the media, are the all visible and identifiable constituents of Subjective violence that openly agitates the normal and peaceful state of things. Subjective violence functions as a lure that impedes people from noticing the actual violence. What must be paid attention to for iek is what he calls Objective violence, which is invisible and not easily identifiable. Objective violence appears in two forms: Symbolic violence which is embodied in language and its forms, and Systemic violence, or the catastrophic consequences of the smooth functioning of our economic and political systems. iek claims that global capitalist system, by embodying Objective violence, is approaching an apocalyptic zero-point which is enforced by four of its antagonisms. The study attemptes to trace the footprints of Systemic and Symbolic violence in the novels of Cormac McCarthys The Road (2006) and Khaled Hosseinis The Kite Runner (2003) and it will conclude that by applying ieks theory, The Road can be deemed as a prophetic metaphor for a real future of capitalism if it maintains on its destructive advancement and that The Kite Runner comprises violence of language which aims to belie the social events.
