"This book aims to bring together specialists to discuss the discursive construction of identities and analyse the impact of specific identity discourses on various socio-political issues in Europe. While most analyses of the relationship between discourse and identity have been conducted by linguists and communications scholars, this volume seeks also to show how other disciplines (literature, media, sociology, conceptual history, politics and international relations in addition to critical discourse analysis and communications) examine the social construction of identity and meaning through discourse and their application to the study of European politics and society"--Introductory chapter.
