Utilizando numerosas analogías con el lenguaje de la música, el autor investiga el desarrollo de la autoestima en una sociedad desigual, cómo esa autoestima debe estar equilibrada con los sentimientos hacia los demás, y cómo el respeto mutuo puede forjar vínculos por encima de la brecha de la desigualdad, incitando a trabajar por una sociedad que funcione como una orquesta, que promueva lo mejor de cada uno de sus miembros y a la vez los relacione estrechamente entre sí.
