SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT

Text of Note
Geiser (Humboldt U. of Berlin) presents iterative splitting methods for decomposing evolution equations and decoupling differential equations with unbounded operators. Extensions to the iterative splitting schemes are developed for spatially discretized partial differential equations, domain decomposition, and time-dependent operators. Benchmark problems solve moderate equations with 2-4 iterative steps, compare the iterative schemes with the ADI method and A-B splitting, and demonstrate extensions to convection-diffusion-reaction equations. Four examples apply the methods to radioactive waste disposal, elastic wave propagation, chemical vapor deposition processes, and complex flow phenomena.
