دریاچه ارومیه بعنوان بزرگترین دریاچه شور داخل کشور و دومین دریاچه شور جهان پس از بحرالمیت، با مساحت تقریبی ۵۰۰۰ کیلومترمربع در قسمت شمال غربی ایران واقع شده است .در سالهای اخیر تراز دریاچه تحت تأثیر عوامل طبیعی و انسانی شامل خشکسالی های بیش از حد در منطقه، ساخت و ساز سدها و بهره برداری نادرست از منابع آبی در حوضه آبریز قرار گرفته است .سطح دریاچه ارومیه با نوسانات زیادی از ۵۴۸۲ کیلومترمربع در سال ۱۳۶۸ به ۴۲۳۳ کیلومترمربع در سال ۱۳۸۶ رسیده است .در این مقاله بیلان آبی دریاچه ارومیه با استفاده از عوامل ورودی و خروجی شامل بارش، جریانات سطحی و تبخیرمورد مطالعه قرار گرفته و با استفاده از شبکه عصبی تراز دریاچه و به تبع آن سطح و حجم دریاچه برای ۱۰ سال آینده تخمین زده شده است

Urmia lake is the largest saline lake inside Iran and the second saline lake in the world after Dead Sea, that average area about 5000 km2 is located in the northwestern Iran. In recent years this lake levels affected natural and human factors, including successive droughts in the region and the construction of dams and the indiscriminate exploitation of water resources in the Basin. The lake surface changes that severe fluctuations from 5482 km2 in 1368 has been reached to about 4233 km2 in 1386. In this paper, using input and output factors including rainfall, discharge and evaporation, water balance of Urmia lake has been studied and water level of Urmia lake and proportionately area and reserved volume of lake for next 10 years has been estimated
